Broken Open Glory: in All Its Glory! (Part 2)

The Glorious GOD lives in ME, little ole broken me!

My Arizona Geode 2018

My Arizona Geode 2018

I just can't get past this, nor do I want to. Why?

I fear the truth is still not deep enough in my soul, influencing my gut level, real, vulnerable, honest life in this my human journey in a broken, fallen world.

So before we move on to explore the individuality and uniqueness of this "broken open" metaphor, would you stay here with me awhile? Because my guess is that the truth of it all hasn't gone deep enough into your soul as well, right?
(Be sure to see the previous "geode post." Broken Open Glory: Seeing God in Unlikely Places )

So can I spell out for us an amazing thought:

the Glorious God of Creation;
the Arresting God of the Burning Bush;
the Blinding God of the Desert Mountain;
the Still, Quiet God of the "behind me" Voice;
the Gentle God of the Judean Hillside;
the Truth-filled God of the Living Way;
the Compassionate God of the Overflowing Well;
the Caring God of the Secure Sheepfold;
the Life-filling God of the Fruitful Vine;
the Resurrecting God of my Salvation;
the Fire-tongued God of the Holy Spirit

... lives in ME!
and YOU too, my sister and brother, by grace through faith in the glorious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ!

And I can't get past it all because this truth amazes me, stabilizes me, gives me perspective ... and hope ... and peace ... and joy ... and love ... and gratitude, as I walk out this exciting/excruciating journey on this side of our True Home.

So here are some Scriptures and some selected thoughts to take the realization of the Indwelling Triune God deeper into our very human souls. May we today live from that glorious Union, letting HIM live, love, and serve through us today. Amen. (My morning prayer everyday! Make it yours too?)

The Glorious Triune God is in us!

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Romans 8:9-11 ESV

Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,
I will dwell in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

2 Corinthians 6:16 NASB

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4 ESV

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14–21 ESV

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
John 17:20–23 ESV

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
Colossians 1:27–29 ESV

The glory of God [is] in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure [the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in Jesus Christ] in jars of clay [our humanity], to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
2 Corinthians 4:6–7 ESV

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 ESV

And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.
Romans 8:10 NLT

Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
John 14:19c-20 ESV

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 ESV

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
2 Corinthians 13:5 ESV

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another [of the same kind as Jesus] Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with [para, near, alongside] you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
John 14:16–20 ESV

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
John 7:37–39 ESV

But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. . .Or do you not know that your body is a temple [Holy of Holies] of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:17, 19–20 ESV

Austin-Sparks, That Which is Born of the Spirit: the New Creation in Christ

...Christ in the glory is also now the Christ within, the hope of glory. That is our hope, and we have no other hope of glory other than that He is already inward. This whole thing is gathered up in all the energies and capacities of the Holy Spirit; gathered up and resident within, and if we let the Lord have His way He will do His work.

Pete Briscoe, Telling the Truth, March 21, 2018

Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His time was up. In a few short hours, He would leave the world and go to His Father. No question about His love for the men He was sharing His last meal with. The next day, He would prove His love for the whole world. They had moved beyond the awkwardness from earlier in the meal, but for those closest to Him, the words of His pending departure caused confusion and concern. As part of His “Farewell Discourse,” Jesus offered them words of comfort:

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

Help was on the way: an Advocate, a Counselor, the Spirit of Truth. The prepositions Christ used are revealing. This Spirit had been with them. Soon, He would be in them. This is no small distinction! Not for them, not for us. The Holy Spirit of God is not just around us, not just among us. He is IN us—in YOU (if you have opened the door of your life to Christ and allowed Him to come in). The movement of the Farewell Discourse is profound: from “with us” to “in us.”

  “ The Holy Spirit of God is not just around us, not just among us. He is IN us—in YOU...

Of all the “famous last words” spoken, are not these, perhaps, the most important we could hear? His final words telling us who we are because of Who is in us.

Holy Spirit, Let me never, never get over the wonder and awe of who I am in Christ and who You are in me. Give me the peace to ponder this, the passion to envision it, the faith to live out the truth that You indwell me. Amen.
