In Sorrow: Is There No God in __________?

A question jumped out at me in my "catch up" chronological Bible reading this week. It was so simple yet profound, but it grabbed hold of my mind and heart.

Is there no God in Israel?

A curious question to just jump off the page and grab me, isn't it? Where did this question come from? And why now? Let me give you a bit of background ...

I was reading in 2 Kings, chapter 1. In this chapter my hero-prophet Elijah is asking Ahaziah, the king of Israel, this probing question three times. Three times! Why?

Ahaziah had had an accident. He was in bad shape. And Ahaziah wanted the peace of mind of knowing that he would recover. So where does he go for the answer, for the comfort in the knowing? Baal! BAAL! The pagan god, the idol, the false power that just a generation before (think father Ahab and mother Jezebel) had gotten "beat," along with all its prophets, by the True God of Israel (Read about the "contest on Mount Carmel" in 1 Kings 18:1-40).

Elijah keeps asking the same question,

Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Is there no God in Israel?

Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Is there no God in Israel?

Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Is there no God in Israel?

And the Lord spoke to my heart that day,

Why would you go to any false comfort in the midst of the stresses of health issues you are facing? Is there no God in Dayton?

Oh YES, God! And it's YOU, glorious YOU!

In the midst of my scary, pending, health stuff ...
In the midst of my husband John's pending health stuff ...
why would I go anywhere else for comfort, for reassurance, for peace, for resolution?

Is there no God in Dayton?
Is there no God in Beavercreek?

Is there no God on Prestwick Place?
Is there no God in my life, in my innermost being?

Yes, there is! And He is the Lord of all, the Lord of my life! And He is more than Enough!

So I ask you, dear friend,

Is there no God in [your town, your life]?

He is Lord of all! Cling to HIM no matter what you are facing, no matter what is pending in your life. HE is more than enough!

Psalm 121 NLT
1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!

3 He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel
    never slumbers or sleeps.

5 The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lordstands beside you as your protective shade.
6 The sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon at night.

7 The Lord keeps you from all harm
    and watches over your life.
8 The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
    both now and forever.
